Bio
Mr. Gat who began rapping at the age of 13 came from a religious and strict family from the Bronx. Growing up mostly listening to Gospel music his brother, Pop, would go to a lot of old school concerts and tell him and his siblings about them. When it was discovered by his older brother that Mr. Gat was penning his own lyrics his brother made him a beat which he never recorded. It was something that he will always treasure. As most teens growing up do, he often got into trouble following in the footsteps of his friends. One of his first "dis" raps was about a girlfriend who cheated on him. Eventually, he found himself dropping out of school, getting his G.E.D. and spending a lot of time in the home studio of Q Banga in The Castle Hill Projects. It was about that time in which he knew he would be an artist and decided to pursue his dreams. At the age of 16, Mr. Gat's first show was at a downtown Manhattan place called Sweetwaters. It was him, Q Banga, and his partner at the time who went by the name Synist. The reaction they received from the crowd was in his words "amazing". It was the better than any high a drug could give a person. One song of note is called "Move Ya Head" and it does exactly that. It's an up tempo song with a heavy 808 drum that digs into your soul. It's the type of song that makes you have fun with the music. There's also "End Up in This Place" which is about people who end up incarcerated that do not belong there and get treated like the worst criminals. People have gotten emotional when listening to this song. He has been on several mixtapes over recently: Torch Ski Mask Music Vol. 1 15 called "Hammer Slide Back" which is being played on 101.5 and DJ Black Lotto was the first to play it. He's also appeared on DJ Lexus' Hungry Vol. 1; DJ Lexus' Murder Night and Statue of Liberty, DJ Warrior's, Antlive and DJ Big K's Connected 2.0 (The Source Mag Feb Mixtape Feature), DJ Ophax/DJ Blackjesus mixtapes as well as DJ Green Lantern's Monster Mash 2. Mr. Gat has performed at Don Hills for Specialyst Ent's "The Rebirth of Hip-Hop Showcase" which was hosted by HOT97's DJ.Envy. Mr.Gat also blessed the Sofa Lounge Hosted by Mysonne, Club Snitch in the Bronx, Poetry Lounge in Manhattan, Public Assembly in Brooklyn, winning open mic showcases and also venues in Philadelphia and Atlanta for Drahma Magazine. Mr. Gat has also collaborated with Torch & Gunplay of Triple C's, Sinsay, as well as StressDollaz. Mr. Gat was also featured on NBA star Ron Artest's single (music video) "Get Low" which featured Mike Jones, Nature, and Capone of CNN. He now doesn't see himself as the type of artist that is into bragging, "I'm just not that kind of artist. I see myself lifting, building things and others up, not tearing them down. People brag to lift themselves up. I don't need to do that as God lifts me up, ya dig!" His influences are God, because as he says "He does wake me up in the morning/. Family, because without them I don't have nothing, and music in general. Not just hip-hop but rock, reggae, pop, salsa, jazz — all types of music — because it's the notes, sounds and rhythms which gives me an idea or melody to work with."
